Diamondbacks signed 2B Jesus Valdez to a minor league contract.
Valdez was acquired by the Pirates from the Dodgers back in 2018 in the David Freese trade and spent the last few seasons in the lower levels of Pittsburgh’s system. The 24-year-old second baseman hit .212/.264/.400 with five home runs and three steals across 91 plate appearances in 31 games this past season between High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona.

Pirates acquired INF Jesus Valdez from the Dodgers for 3B David Freese.
The 20-year-old infielder has played only in the Dominican Summer League where he slashed .230/.343/.412 with six homers, 27 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 60 games. He’s very raw, but by all reports also very talented. It’s not a bad get for the Pirates in exchange for one month of David Freese.
