Single-A Kinston’s John Drennen homered twice, doubled and walked on Friday.
Drennen has matched his April total with six extra-base hits this month and is now batting .233/.313/.408 overall. He’s just 20, so he doesn’t need to have a big season in the Carolina League this year to remain one of the Indians’ better prospects.

Single-A Kinston’s John Drennen went 4-for-4 with a homer on Wednesday.
Drennan raised his average from .206 to .268. The 2005 supplemental first-round pick struggled after a promotion to the Carolina League last year, but he should put up solid numbers this season as a 20-year-old. He could have a future as a starting outfielder, possibly in left field.

Indians outfield prospect John Drennen has been suspended 50 games by MLB for testing positive for the banned substance Clomiphene.
Clomiphene is a female fertility drug but is typically linked to steroid use. The 24-year-old Drennen, a 2005 sandwich pick, is batting .256/.367/.444 with three homers in 117 at-bats for Double-A Akron this season. He was not ranked by Baseball America among the team’s top 30 prospects coming into the season.

Drennen, the 33rd overall pick in the 2005 draft, is batting .333 with a home run and five RBI in 16 games for the Captains.
