MLB suspended Padres minor leaguer Jonathan Ellis 50 games for violating the league’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs.
Ellis, 23, had a 2.57 ERA in 24 relief appearances for Single-A Lake Elsinore before a promotion earlier this month. He had given up three runs in 3 2/3 innings since moving up to Double-A Mobile. The right-hander wasn’t considered to be one of the Padres’ better relief prospects.
