Jorge Padilla, hit in the head by a pitch Tuesday, continues to be monitored for a concussion.
    He’s day-to-day.

Phillies re-signed outfielder Jorge Padilla to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Padilla was another player non-tendered by the Phillies on Tuesday. He’s likely to be a regular for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Nationals signed outfielders Jason Dubois, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Dubois, 28, is about done as a legitimate candidate for a roster spot after hitting just .251/.303/.415 for Triple-A Norfolk last season. Even if he rebounds offensively, his poor defense in left field will be held against him. Murphy is coming over from the Angels. Scouts tended to think he was a better bet than Reggie Willits to put together a career in the majors, but the former infielder has little power and hasn’t turned into much of an OBP guy. Plus, he’s an awful basestealer for someone with plus speed.

Elijah Dukes isn’t in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
No injury here, just a case of manager Jim Riggleman rotating in a number of outfielders. Jorge Padilla got the start in right field on Wednesday.

Nationals purchased the contract of outfielder Jorge Padilla from Triple-A Syracuse.
Padilla will finally make his major league debut Wednesday after spending the first 12 years of his career in the minors. The 29-year-old was hitting .367 at Syracuse with four home runs and 21 RBI. He may not get enough playing time for fantasy consideration, but it’s an awfully nice story.
  • Josh Willingham and Cristian Guzman are getting the night off against the Brewers on Saturday.
Nothing to worry about as they are sitting with what manager Jim Riggleman calls “general aches and pains.” Alberto Gonzalez will fill in at shortstop with Jorge Padilla getting his first major league start in left field.

Nationals reassigned INF Antonio Perez, C Devin Ivany, INF William Bergolla, INF-OF Yurendell de Caster, OF Roger Bernadina, OF Frank Diaz, OF Tommy Murphy and OF Jorge Padilla to minor league camp.
There’s been no word, but we’re guessing Perez is still limited after missing most of last season. He didn’t make an appearance in a game this spring.

Blue Jays signed OF Jorge Padilla to a minor league contract.
They also inked LHP Willie Collazo, OF Chris Lubanski and INF Jesus Merchan. All will receive invites to Spring Training. Padilla, 30, spent most of last season with Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals organization, batting .367 with four home runs and 21 RBI. After 12 years in the minors, he made his major league with Washington in August, batting .120 (3-for-25) in 29 games.

The Phillies had reported that outfield prospect Jorge Padilla would have season-ending surgery on a torn tendon in his hand. That no longer appears to be the case.
A follow-up examination indicated that Padilla did not tear a tendon. He received a cortisone shot instead, and could return to Double-A Reading in 7-10 days.
