The Astros are closing in on new deals with free agents Jose Vizcaino and Orlando Palmeiro, the Houston Chronicle reports.

That’s just swell. Both Vizcaino and Palmeiro have fell short of 700 OPSs the last two years. Vizcaino was at least decent last season. The 35-year-old Palmeiro is probably no longer worthy of a roster spot.

Vizcaino realized Wednesday after taking batting practice that his arm needs more time. ''It’s going to take me a little longer, but I still think I’ll be back before September,’' he said.
