Wayne, who has served a couple of quick stints on the Marlins roster this season, is 3-7 with a 4.14 ERA, 88 H and 54/31 K/BB in 91 1/3 IP for Albuquerque.

One report said the Marlins were the frontrunners for the services of Armando Benitez, and said the Mets had dispatched a scout to look at Bump. The Marlins, five games back of Arizona in the NL Wildcard race, have gone from sellers to buyers.

Wayne is eligible to come off the DL today, but he won’t be activated until tomorrrow at the earliest.

Wayne will face the Expos Sunday, but might be up for only the one start before Josh Beckett comes off the DL.

Wayne will join Albuquerque’s rotation. He’ll probably return to the majors prior to the All-Star break.

Wayne, who was troubled by a sore shoulder at the start of the season, had a 5.91 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Florida. He may spend just one day in the majors.

Wayne is expected to be sent down on Tuesday. Tommy Phelps is likely to replace him on the roster and join the bullpen.

Wayne will start tonight against the Diamondbacks, but he’ll probably be sent down after the game and replaced by Tommy Phelps.

Wayne, the fifth overall pick in the 2000 draft, made just two appearances this spring before being reassigned to minor league camp. He’ll be picked up, but he’ll have to spend at least a couple of months in Triple-A before anyone gives him a look as a middle reliever or fifth starter.

Wayne likely will have a permanent spot in the Florida rotation, but he could use a couple of more months in the minors first.
