Red Sox prospect Kevin McAvoy turned in a brilliant performance for High-A Salem on Saturday, allowing one hit over seven scoreless frames.
McAvoy finished with five strikeouts and only one walk. He’s held opponents to a miserable .191 average and has yet to allow a home run this season. The 21-year-old could probably improve his strikeout to walk ratio (25 Ks to 21 BB this season), but overall, it’s been a terrific year for the right-hander. Including Saturday’s outing, McAvoy has now surrendered one run or fewer in five of his last seven starts.
