Cardinals minor leaguer Kurt Abbott is out for the year with a torn Achilles’ tendon.
Abbott had appeared in 21 games for Triple-A Memphis, batting .217. The 33-year-old hoped to make it back to the majors after spending more of last season out of baseball.

Cardinals signed infielder Kurt Abbott to a minor league contract.
After getting released by the Twins in spring training, Abbott spent most of last season out of baseball. The Cardinals intend to go with Miguel Cairo as their primary reserve infielder and if they carry another it will be Wilson Delgado, so Abbott will only be a candidate to make the team if someone gets hurt.
