Angels prospect RHP Mark Sappington was roughed up once again on Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for Double-A Arkansas.
Sappington, a fifth-round draft pick in 2012, flashed his potential last year in his full-season debut, as the 23-year-old right-hander posted a 3.45 ERA and 136/82 strikeout-to-walk in 156 1/3 innings between High-A Inland Empire and Double-A Arkansas. However, he’s now struggled in back-to-back starts to begin the season, evidenced by his 10.80 ERA and .444 opponents’ batting average through 8 1/3 innings.

Rays acquired RHP Mark Sappington from the Angels for LHP Cesar Ramos.
Sappington posted an ugly 6.02 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 113 2/3 innings this past season between High-A Inland Empire and Double-A Arkansas. The 23-year-old former fifth-round pick isn’t much of a prospect.
