Micah Owings pitched six innings of no-hit ball Thursday in his debut for Triple-A Tucson.
Owings did walk five in the process. The Tulane product was 6-2 with a 2.91 ERA, 66 H and 69/17 K/BB in 74 1/3 IP for Double-A Tennessee. The Diamondbacks could try him in their rotation during the second half of the season.
  • CWS Shortstop
Andy Parrino claimed one of the Padres’ three final Opening Day roster spots on Tuesday.
With five homers and a .212/.278/.455 batting line, Parrino did enough to earn the utility infielder role. Micah Owings and Jeremy Hermida landed the other two roster spots. Owings had a very disappointing spring, and will look to build on last season’s decent rebound effort. Hermida hit a solid .313 with four home runs, but his primary role will be as a backup outfielder while Mark Kotsay is on the mend.

Making his exhibition debut for the Padres, Micah Owings allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in just one inning of Monday’s loss to the Mariners.
Not a good start for someone looking to nail-down a spot at the backend of the Padres’ rotation. Owings posted a 3.57 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 63 innings for the Diamondbacks last season. He made 33 appearances, though only four of them were starts.

Micah Owings took the loss on Tuesday, surrendering two runs on two hits in two innings of work against the Diamondbacks.
After pitching a scoreless 10th inning, Owings hit the leadoff batter in the 11th and then gave up the eventual game-winning two-run homer. He looked masterful in 3 1/3 shutout frames last Friday. This degree of inconsistency has plagued the 29-year-old for most of his major league career. The question is whether his career year in 2011 was a fluke or the start of new trend.

Padres transferred RHP Micah Owings from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Owings has been out since late April with a strained right forearm, and now won’t be eligible to return until the end of June. He had a 2.79 ERA in 9 2/3 innings.

Padres placed RHP Micah Owings on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.
Owings allowed one run on three hits and one walk over 1 2/3 innings against the Nationals on Wednesday and has a 2.79 ERA and 7/5 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings this season. The severity of the injury is not yet known.
  • Relief Pitcher #52
Anthony Bass is the leading candidate to fill a rotation spot for the Padres until Tim Stauffer (elbow) returns.
The Padres will keep everyone on regular rest, so they won’t need a fifth starter until April 14. It’s unclear, though, if Stauffer will be ready by then. Bass, who had a 1.68 ERA and 1.28 WHIP last season, isn’t a bad option as a fill-in, but Michah Owings, who pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings Friday, is also a candidate.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher
Padres placed RHP Dustin Moseley on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.
He evidently hurt himself during Saturday’s outing. We’ll update his status when more is known, but you’d have to think he’ll probably need more than the minimum 15 days on the DL. Moseley had been slated to make his first start on Thursday, but now Anthony Bass or Micah Owings will probably get that assignment.

Micah Owings said Monday that his strained right forearm was feeling better.
Owings was placed on the disabled list on Friday, but an MRI revealed no structural damage. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 2.79 ERA and 7/5 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings this season. It’s not clear when he’ll resume throwing.
  • SEA 1st Baseman
Micah Owings didn’t have it again on Tuesday, yielding three earned runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
It’s been a tough spring for Owings. He has a 7.50 ERA over 12 frames, as hitters are batting .340 against him.
