Michael Johnson went 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBI for Single-A Lake Elsinore yesterday.
Johnson, who turned 25 in June, remains at Lake Elsinore for the third straight year despite hitting .302/.364/.600 in 57 games this season. Injuries have been a big problem for him. If he had stayed healthy since being drafted in the second round in 2002, we might be talking about him as the Padres’ first baseman of the future. As is, he doesn’t seem like a very good bet.

Michael Johnson homered three times and doubled today in the first game of a doubleheader for the Javelinas.
It was just a seven-inning contest, so Johnson didn’t get a chance to go for four homers. Johnson, 25, entered with one homer in 52 at-bats. The 2002 second-round pick has battled injuries throughout his career, but he hit .295/.366/.618 in 73 games for Single-A Lake Elsinore this year. Despite his age, he’s kind of intriguing.

Playing in just his third game of the season, Padres prospect Michael Johnson went 4-for-6 with two homers and a double for Double-A Mobile on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Johnson was sidelined with a hamstring injury before returning this week. He’s been plagued by injuries throughout his career, but he hit .295/.366/.618 in 73 games for Single-A Lake Elsinore last year. The Padres might never need him, but he could someday emerge as a part-time player in the majors.
