Michel Abreu went 2-for-4 and hit his 10th homer for Double-A Binghamton on Friday.
He is batting .342/.386/.532 in 231 at-bats for Binghamton. Abreu, a Cuban defector, originally signed with the Red Sox last year, but he had his contract voided because the club learned he was lying about his age. He’s believed to be 31, making it rather unlikely that he’ll ever see the majors.

The Red Sox are reportedly attempting to void the contract given to Cuban defector Michael Abreu.
According to the Boston Globe, Abreu is older than he claims and has not been able to establish residency in America.

Mets reassigned 1B Michel Abreu to minor league camp; optioned LHP Willie Collazo and RHP Carlos Muniz to Triple-A New Orleans.
Abreu went 2-for-14 with five strikeouts while helping to fill in for Carlos Delgado this month. Muniz should be an option for the pen later. He allowed an unearned run over three innings.

Michel Abreu didn’t make Tuesday’s trip to Jupiter because he’s been diagnosed with a strained right hip flexor.
Abreu has been seeing plenty of action early with Carlos Delgado and now Marlon Anderson out. The Mets may have to bring Mike Carp up from minor league camp if this keeps up.

Michel Abreu hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mets a 4-4 tie against the University of Michigan on Tuesday.
Abreu also had a double in three at-bats. Jason Vargas started for the Mets and allowed one run in two innings. Aaron Heilman, a Notre Dame product, had to feel especially bad about giving up a run in his inning of work. Abreu is back with the Mets this spring after sitting out all of 2007 due to visa problems. The lost year mostly erased the Cuban defector’s slim chances of putting together a career in the majors.

Mets signed first baseman Michel Abreu to a minor league contract.
Abreu was the Cuban defector the Red Sox signed and then dropped last season when it turned out he was older than his listed ago. He turns 31 this month. It’s unlikely that he’ll be more than a Triple-A player.

Mets prospect Michel Abreu had two homers and five RBI for Mesa of the AFL on Monday.
Abreu is batting just .262 in Arizona, but he has five homers and four doubles among his 11 hits. The Cuban defector batted .332/.404/.530 in 398 at-bats for Double-A Binghamton last season. Whether he has a future probably depends on if he’s 27, as he claims, or 31, which is the age the Red Sox believed he was when they terminated his contract a year ago.

Mets reassigned 1B Michel Abreu, RHP Clint Nageotte, RHP Kevin Mulvey, RHP Jorge Vasquez, LHP Willie Collazo, LHP Eddie Camacho, C Joe Hieptas, C Drew Butera, C Mike Nickeas, C Francisco Pena, OF Chip Ambres, OF Fernando Martinez and OF Victor Mendez to minor league camp; optioned LHP Adam Bostick to Triple-A New Orleans.
In what would have been considered a surprise a few days ago, Mike Carp survives round one. GM Omar Minaya sounded high on Abreu in the offseason, but the 27- or 31-year-old Cuban defector only appeared in one game this spring. Perhaps Minaya was just talking him up previously for trade purposes.
