Michael Nakamura has agreed to a one-year deal with the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan’s Pacific League.

Pitching for the Twins and Blue Jays, Nakamura, 28, had a 7.51 ERA in 38 1/3 IP over the last two years.

Twins purchased the contract of RHP Mike Nakamura from Triple-A Rochester.

Nakamura was 4-4 with a 2.01 ERA and two saves in 21 games for Rochester this season. He has a chance to be a solid reliever, but he’s not likely to have any fantasy value.

It was rather surprising that Nakamura was given so little of a chance to make the Twins this spring. He’d be a decent option as a 12th pitcher if anyone wants to claim him.

We like this one better than the Sean Douglass pickup, especially since Nakamura still has an option left. He’ll be assigned to Triple-A Syracuse for now, but he will debut in the Toronto bullpen by June or July.

Nakamura isn’t going to be a candidate for saves, but like Jason Frasor, he should be another average right-handed reliever for the Jays. If the offense starts producing, the Toronto pen will record a lot of victories.
