Don’t be surprised if Nate Cornejo is demoted to Triple-A Toledo in the very near future.
He was hit hard again yesterday and now sports a 8.42 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in four decisions (1-3). The Tigers could use Gary Knotts as a starter and promote Franklyn German, who is pitching well with the Mud Hens.

Nate Cornejo (right shoudler inflamation) pitched a perfect inning at Triple-A Toldeo last night.
He threw 16 pitches, 12 for strikes in his first game action since May 2nd. Cornejo is at least two weeks away from returning to Detroit’s active roster.

Nate Cornejo (right shoulder inflammation) allowed one run on three hits over two innings last night for Triple-A Toledo.
He struck out two and walked two in his latest rehab start. Cornejo needs at least one more minor league outing before the Tigers will consider activating him off the disabled list.

Nate Cornejo has been recalled from his injury rehab assignment at Toledo due continuing shoulder pain.
He will be re-examined by Tigers’ doctors this week. It goes without saying that Cornejo is nowhere close to returning to the Detroit pitching staff.

Nate Cornejo (right shoulder inflammation) is throwing every other day, but is not close to returning to action.
He will have to fight to reclaim a rotation spot if, and when, he is ready to return to the Tigers’ 25-man roster.

Nate Cornejo’s slump has coincided with the demotion of Brandon Inge.
Cornejo had a 2.82 ERA on June 3, but he’s allowed 30 earned runs in his last 28 1/3 innings. With Inge as his catcher, Cornejo’s ERA is 3.12. With Matt Walbeck, it’s 8.40, and with A. J. Hinch, it’s 9.00. Cornejo doesn’t think his problems are related to his catcher.

Nate Cornejo pitched eight scoreless innings to outduel Esteban Loaiza today and win for the fourth time this season.
Loaiza gave up one run in eight innings. Cornejo’s quality start was just his second in seven outings since June 3. He’s not worth owning in AL-only leagues right now.

Nate Cornejo had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings tonight, but he didn’t retire another batter after giving up his first hit.
Cornejo gave up three hits and three runs in the loss to the White Sox. He’s now 4-8 with a 4.42 ERA.

Nate Cornejo has reportedly decided to retire from baseball.
Cornejo, who was pitching for the White Sox Triple-A team in Charlotte, was attempting to return from a shoulder injury.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher
Nate Cornejo surrendered four runs in 1 1/3 innings tonight in a loss to the White Sox.
Steve Sparks relieved him and saved the bullpen by allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings. Cornejo shouldn’t have to worry about being sent down if he has a poor April. He’ll eventually get settled in and establish himself as a decent starter.
