The Angels announced Friday that they have hired Jose Molina for the role of catching coordinator. According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, Molina will work with catchers throughout their minor league system.

Molina played 15 seasons in the majors before having knee surgery this March. The 40-year-old spent seven of those seasons with the Angels and won a World Series title while backing up his brother Bengie in 2002.

Molina received considerable attention toward the end of his career for his ability as an expert pitch-framer. This is a skill which has taken on increased importance around the game in recent years. He’ll be quite a resource for the Angels to have around.
