Felix Doubront made the A’s rotation in spring training but he didn’t make it into the season. On Opening Day the Athletics placed him on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury.
The A’s first described the injury as a left elbow sprain, but the team just announced that Doubront will have reconstructive surgery on his UCL tomorrow. That’s Tommy John to you and me. That means that Doubront will be out until the middle of next season.
Doubront has pitched six years in the bigs, compiling a record of 31-26 and an ERA of 4.89. A swingman, Doubront has started 85 of his career 118 games. Tough break.
