Brandon Phillips arrested for reckless driving

Brandon Phillips takes the label of speedster a bit too literally. The Reds second baseman was arrested and charged with reckless driving on Friday night, according to Quan Truong of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Phillips, who turns 29 on Monday, was driving his new Audi at about 72 mph in a 35-mph zone. There was no alcohol involved and his mother was in the car with him at the time.

He was was booked into the Kenton County (OH) Jail and released about an hour after posting $25 bond.

There’s nothing funny about behavior like this, especially when someone has so much to lose as a result of their actions, but I love the comments by deputy chief jailer Colonel Scott Colvin.

“Reckless driving, a lot of times, is truly a discretionary offense,” Colvin said. “He was nothing but a gentleman, according to the policeman that booked him. I love the way the guy plays baseball but he could probably be better at driving his car.”

Phillips is scheduled to appear at Kenton County Municipal Court on Tuesday morning.
