Milwaukee has claimed third baseman Matt Dominguez off waivers from Houston after he was designated for assignment last week.
Dominguez was a former top prospect for the Marlins and was once viewed as the long-term answer at third base for the Astros, but he’s hit just .233 with a .649 OPS in 357 games as a big leaguer and for all the praise his glove receives defensive metrics have generally graded him as average or worse.
If the Brewers trade Aramis Ramirez they could turn to Dominguez as his replacement at third base, but for now the 25-year-old has been optioned to Triple-A.
