Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz will return to the starting rotation for Tuesday night’s start against the White Sox. It will be his first start since May 26, when he served up six runs in five innings to the Rockies. Following that outing, the Sox moved Buchholz to the bullpen and he’s held the opposition scoreless in four of five appearances.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski wants to see some consistency out of the 31-year-old right-hander. Via Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe:
Buchholz enters Tuesday’s start with a 5.86 ERA and a 44/30 K/BB ratio in 66 innings of work. He was pitching well last season before an injury cut his season short in July, a sea change from his miserable 2014 campaign during which he compiled a 5.34 ERA. Between injuries and inconsistency, the Red Sox haven’t been able to count on Buchholz throughout his 10-year career.
