Second baseman Darwin Barney is back from the disabled list and to make room for his return the Cubs released Doug Davis, who went 1-7 with a 6.50 ERA in nine starts.

Davis also went 1-4 with a 7.51 ERA in eight starts for the Brewers last season, making the 35-year-old left-hander 2-11 with a 6.96 ERA and 70/47 K/BB ratio in 84 innings since the beginning of 2009.

In other words, this might be the end of the line for Davis, who was a solid mid-rotation starter for a decade or so.
