According to the Press Enterprise, former Rays prospect infielder Brandon Martin was arrested Friday in Corona, California in connection with the shooting deaths of two men, including his father.

Martin, who was selected No. 38 overall by the Rays in 2011, was captured by police after a brief chase by vehicle and on foot. The shooting took place on Thursday and also left his uncle gravely wounded.

Martin was required by court order to stay away from his family. He was detained on Tuesday for a mental health evaluation. It’s an incredibly sad and tragic situation. You can watch a video report from NBC 4 in Southern California here.

Martin, 22, struggled over three seasons in the minors and hasn’t played professionally since 2013. He was officially released by the Rays earlier this year.
