Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports says that the Mets have some interest in Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez as a fallback option in case Yoenis Cespedes signs elsewhere.

Cespedes is, of course, the top free agent in this year’s class and will no doubt have multiple offers. If New York cannot land him, however, Martinez is an attractive replacement. One they’d have to trade for, obviously, but one which the Tigers have suggested they are willing to trade.

Martinez, who is entering his walk year, hit 22 homers with a .908 OPS this past season.
