Pitcher Jair Jurrjens is looking to make a comeback, currently rehabbing after undergoing knee surgery last September, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Jurrjens is only 28 years old and his injury issues aren’t related to his arm, so he has that going for him. Heyman adds that Jurrjens has been able to ramp up his fastball to 90 MPH.
Jurrjens spent the 2013 season in the Tigers’ and Orioles’ systems, making a brief appearance in the big leagues with the O’s, posting a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings. He hasn’t had prolonged success in the Major Leagues since 2011, when he finished with a 2.96 ERA in 153 innings with the Braves.
