Jon Niese left with one out in the sixth inning of Friday night’s start against the Astros due to an elevated heart rate, ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin reports. Rubin adds that this is not exactly a new symptom of Niese’s:

Jon Niese left a 2012 game vs. St. Louis and a 2011 game at Texas with a rapid heart rate.

Niese told me in Jan. ’13 doctors initially recommended “ablation” procedure, but after visit to Cleveland Clinic advised it wasn’t needed.

Obviously, a heart condition is never good, but the Mets have to be relieved that Niese isn’t dealing with more shoulder or elbow discomfort, as both have nagged Niese this season.

Niese had blanked the Astros over 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits while striking out four and issuing no walks. He wraps up his 2014 season with a 9-11 record, a 3.40 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 138/45 K/BB ratio -- another productive season for the 27-year-old lefty.
