Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau currently has a chance at his first career batting title, but his efforts took a hit last night when he was forced to exit a game against the Cardinals due to what was described as left side intercostal soreness.

Morneau went 0-for-3 before leaving in the sixth inning, which brought his average down to .315 for the year. Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post writes that the Rockies are calling him day-to-day, but these type of injuries are tricky to treat and it’s difficult to pinpoint a recovery time.

Pittsburgh’s Josh Harrison went 3-for-4 last night against the Cubs and now leads the National League with a .318 batting average. Morneau sits in second while Andrew McCutchen (.311), Buster Posey (.310,). and Ben Revere (.307) are within shouting distance.
