Nolan Ryan announced that he’ll retire as Rangers chief executive officer effective at the end of this month, sending out the following statement:
This is the right time for me to step down from my role of overseeing the Rangers organization. I am extremely proud of what this organization has accomplished. On the field, we have enjoyed great success at the major league level. The fans have supported us in record numbers the last two years and we have been able to upgrade the ballpark and enhance the in-game experience to reward that loyalty.
Back in March there were reports of Ryan potentially stepping down, but the 66-year-old Hall of Famer ultimately decided to stay on the job. And there has long been talk about Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels clashing over various issues. Ryan has essentially been the face of the Rangers--and go-to quote for media members--in recent years despite Daniels being the guy in charge of actually putting together what has been a very successful team.
