After falling short in his bid for the Rangers last week Mark Cuban commented that high temperatures in Arlington mean the team is “always at a disadvantage just because of the heat factor” and “you’re never going to be able to quite charge the same [prices] as Boston is just because of the comfort factor going out there.” Team president and owner-to-be Nolan Ryan seemed to agree with Cuban’s basic point when responding to those comments today, saying:
You can’t justify putting a retractable roof on this stadium at the current cost of doing so. We’ve looked at sun screens that would reduce the temperature in the ballpark by 15 degrees, but we haven’t come up with something that is economically feasible on that yet.
Last night the Rangers drew over 46,000 to see them beat the Yankees, but they haven’t finished a season ranked higher than sixth in total attendance since 2001.
