Orioles sign Pedro Beato to minor league contract

Steve Melewski of MASN reports that the Orioles have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with right-handed reliever Pedro Beato. The deal does not include an invitation to major league spring training, so Beato won’t be under consideration for one of the spots in the Orioles’ Opening Day bullpen.

Beato was a first-round pick of the O’s back in 2006 but never made an appearance in Baltimore. He owns a weak 4.34 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 59/37 K/BB ratio in 93 1/3 career major league innings split between the Mets, Red Sox, and Braves. And he wasn’t very effective last year at Triple-A Gwinnett.
