The Padres have activated starter Andrew Cashner from the disabled list, according to MLB.com. To clear a roster spot for him, they have designated Jason Lane for assignment. Cashner will start tonight against the Nationals.

Lane, 37, recently made his comeback to the majors as a pitcher, tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings over two games for the Padres. As a hitter, he had posted a .771 OPS from 2002-07 with the Astros and Padres.

Cashner had been on the disabled list since May 14 with a strained right elbow. In nine starts prior to the injury, the 27-year-old posted a 2.35 ERA with a 47/17 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings.
