Return to New York? Yankees considering Omar Minaya for front office position

Former Mets general manager Omar Minaya could be headed back to New York, this time with the Yankees. You heard that right.

Erik Boland of New York Newsday reports that Minaya is getting “strong consideration for a high-ranking position” with the Yankees. It’s not clear what role he would fill, but Boland notes that VP of baseball operations Mark Newman recently retired while longtime Yankee scout Gordon Blakeley left for a job with the Braves.

Minaya has been a senior vice president with the Padres since December 2011 and previously served as general manager of the Mets from 2005-2010. His last run in New York ended in disappointing and embarrassing fashion, but he boasts over 25 years of experience in MLB and has a good relationship with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.
