Salvador Perez out Sunday with groin strain

From beat writer Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star comes word that Royals catcher Salvador Perez will miss Sunday’s series finale against the Red Sox because of a strained right groin.

That type of injury usually requires a 15-day disabled list stint, but McCullough says the Royals hope Perez will be able to return to action early this week.

Perez started at catcher for the American League in last week’s 2014 MLB All-Star Game and is batting .282/.327/.432 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI in 87 games played this season. The budding star turned 24 years old in May.

A reporter mentioned to Ned Yost that losing Salvador Perez would not be good for the Royals offense, and Yost just began to laugh.
