Sean Rodriguez re-signs with the Pirates

Utility infielder and water-cooler boxer Sean Rodriguez has re-signed with the Pirates, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune review says it’s a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Rodriguez has been linked to a handful of teams in free agency, but decided to remain in Pittsburgh after receiving 240 plate appearances from manager Clint Hurdle in 2015.

He hit just .246 with four homers and a .642 OPS and Rodriguez is a career .228 hitter with a .665 OPS in 763 games as a major leaguer, so it’s hard to imagine him working his way into a bigger role at age 31.
