The Padres announced on Monday that the club acquired infielder Luis Sardinas from the Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named later.
Sardinas, 23, is now with his fourth team in three major league seasons. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Rangers in 2009. Going into the 2015 season, he was sent to the Brewers as part of a package for starter Yovani Gallardo. This past November, the Brewers sent him to the Mariners in exchange for Ramon Flores.
Sardinas has an uninspiring .218/.257/.268 triple-slash line across 307 major league plate appearances. But he can play anywhere in the infield and has even played some outfield, so he’ll give the Padres some organizational depth and flexibility.
