A few hours ago, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Blue Jays were close to a contract with free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. That was incorrect.
From Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com comes word that the White Sox have agreed to a two-year deal with Pierzynski, possibly worth $8 million.
Pierzynski, 33, hit 270/.300/.388 with nine home runs and 56 RBI over 474 at-bats in 2010. He may begin losing playing time next year to up-and-coming catching prospect Tyler Flowers, but the veteran Pierzynski should still wind up with around 350-400 at-bats.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, will roll on with the intention of starting J.P. Arencibia at catcher in 2011.
