Willie Bloomquist needs knee surgery, out “at least a month”

Willie Bloomquist Mariners

Mariners utility man Willie Bloomquist is expected to miss at least one month and possibly the remainder of the season following arthroscopic right knee surgery.

Bloomquist suffered the injury on July 23 and has made some progress with the rest and rehab route, but told Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times that “even mentioning the word ‘jog’ or ‘run’ just hurts, so obviously something isn’t right.”

Bloomquist has done his usual thing at age 36, playing all over the diamond defensively and offering little offensively, hitting .278 with one homer and a .643 OPS in 47 games. He’s under contract for $3 million next season as part of a two-year, $5.8 million deal.
