Astros purchased the contract of LHP Phillip Barzilla from Triple-A Round Rock.
Barzilla, 27, had a 4.13 ERA in nine starts for Round Rock. He’s not a threat to emerge as one of the Astros’ long-term starters, but it’s possible he’ll be of some use in middle relief and as a spot starter. The Astros didn’t say whether he might start Wednesday in place of Roy Oswalt.
