White Sox signed RHP Randall Delgado to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Delgado was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks in July, but re-signed a few weeks later and was called up by Arizona near the end of the season. The right-hander has had some sustained levels of success, but he’s also battled injuries; particularly a shoulder one that limited him in 2018. He should get a chance to compete for a relief spot in the Chicago bullpen, but it’s unlikely he’ll get a chance to pitch in high-leverage situations if he makes the team.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Reno.
Delgado was removed from the 40-man roster earlier this season but was re-signed to a minor league deal and is now back in the majors. He’ll give the D-backs another bullpen arm in the final weeks.

Randall Delgado yielded one run in five innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.
Delgado is still looking for that first victory, but he has a 3.24 ERA in five starts for the Braves. At the tender age of 21, he’s making a case for a spot in next year’s rotation.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that Braves’ people were “annoyed” by Mike Minor suggesting that he would ask for a trade if he doesn’t make the rotation and is sent to the minors.
It was an odd ultimatum by Minor, who is expected to make the starting rotation out of spring training and has a good chance of remaining the fifth starter even after Tim Hudson (back) returns in May. The 24-year-old southpaw has a 4.74 ERA and 120/40 K/BB ratio over his first 123 1/3 innings in the big leagues and makes for a nice late-round pick in mixed fantasy formats.

Mike Minor will start the Braves’ Grapefruit League opener Saturday against the Tigers.
Randall Delgado will make the start on Sunday, also against the Tigers. Since Tim Hudson (back) is expected to miss the first month of the season, both Minor and Delgado have a good chance of leaving spring training with rotation spots.

Randall Delgado yielded two runs in five innings and struck out five Monday against the Cardinals.
Delgado kept pace with Julio Teheran today and lowered his ERA to 6.92. He certainly hasn’t been as impressive as hoped, but he probably has the inside track for the fifth spot in Atlanta’s rotation.

David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Livan Hernadez will be used in a long reliever/spot starter role and his signing “doesn’t affect the fifth starter battle.”
We figured Hernandez would fill the No. 5 starter role until Tim Hudson was ready, but evidently that competition will still come down to Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran. Hernandez got a major league deal from the Braves shortly after being released by the Astros.
  • SF Starting Pitcher
Tommy Hanson’s next start could come on regular rest on April 10, pushing Randall Delgado’s season debut back a day.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Hanson would likely come back on regular rest if he threw about 85 pitches against the Mets Thursday, and he wound up throwing 83. Delgado is holding down the No. 5 spot until Tim Hudson (back) is ready.

Tim Hudson (back) threw five innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett.
It was a marked improvement over his first couple of rehab outings. Hudson, who has been on the disabled list since the start of the regular season as he recovers from back surgery, is aiming to join the Braves’ starting rotation in late April. Randall Delgado has been filling in.

Randall Delgado pitched poorly again on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits in just 4 1/3 innings against the Pirates.
Delgado struck out four and walked three in the game. He struggled with his control for most of the night, and needed 98 pitches to get through the short outing. With the loss, Delgado now sits at 2-2 with an uninspiring 6.30 ERA through his first four starts. If he continues to pitch poorly, he may be in danger of losing his rotation spot to Jair Jurrejns or Julio Teheran. He’ll attempt to rebound when he takes on the Braves next week.
