Delaney

Delaney allowed six earned runs in five innings this season for Tampa Bay. The 27-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Durham in late July and hasn’t been back.

Delaney appeared in four games with the Rays last season, allowing seven runs over five innings while striking out three and walking seven. The 27-year-old right-hander was much more effective at the Triple-A level, posting a 1.86 ERA and 57/17 K/BB ratio over 67 2/3 innings. He could be a dark horse for the big-league bullpen.

Delaney was designated for assignment on Monday. The 27-year-old right-hander allowed six earned runs in five innings this season for the Rays.

MASN Sports’ Roch Kubatko reports that the deal doesn’t include a spring training invite. Delaney, 28, had a quality 2.29 ERA and 46/18 K/BB ratio over 63 innings with the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate last season. He’ll provide relief depth in the minors.

Delaney has been an effective reliever at the Triple-A level the last two seasons, but hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2011. The 28-year-old will provide bullpen depth in the minors.

Delaney posted a 4.72 ERA and 92/23 K/BB ratio over 61 relief appearances with the Red Wings this season. The 25-year-old right-hander will provide an extra arm for a taxed bullpen.

Delaney made his major league debut last September, but spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Rochester, posting a 4.72 ERA and 92/23 K/BB ratio over 80 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander was likely going to be in the mix for a bullpen spot, so this is a surprising decision.

The Twins designated Delaney for assignment earlier this week to make roster room for the claiming of left-hander Dusty Hughes from the Royals. Delaney spent the majority of last season at Triple-A Rochester, posting a 4.72 ERA and 92/23 K/BB ratio over 80 innings. He made his major league debut last September. The 26-year-old right-hander could be a dark horse to make Tampa Bay’s in-flux bullpen as a middle reliever.

He was cleared to make room for the newly-claimed Jay Buente on the 40-man roster. Delaney, 26, was just sent down to the minors last week after allowing three runs on four walks over two innings of work with the big club. The former Twins farmhand could draw some interest on the waiver wire.
