Roberto Alomar’s struggles since being acquired by the White Sox (he’s batting .163) can be attributed in part to hand and back injuries.
Chicago is still happy with Alomar’s contributions as they believe his presence on the team has made Willie Harris a better player. If that’s what they think, all the power to them. However, after reaching base in nine consecutive at-bats after Alomar’s arrival, Harris is hitting .157 (6-for-38).

Roberto Alomar left yesterday afternoon’s game after the fourth inning with tightness in his back.
The injury does not seem serious, and Alomar should be considered day-to-day.

Roberto Alomar’s playing time will be reduced to two starts a week.
“Right now his back isn’t 100 percent, it’s hard for him to go out and play and perform,” Manager Ozzie Guillen said. “I told him about how I’m going to play him. I’m going to put the best guys I have out there everyday and when it’s his turn to play he’ll be out there.” Willie Harris and Juan Uribe will receive more at-bats due to Alomar being out of the lineup.

The Cardinals are still negotiating with Roberto Alomar and could sign him to act as a bench player.
Alomar will decide on Cardinals’ offer next week. If he doesn’t want to be a reserve, perhaps he could go to Tampa Bay.

The Rangers are talking to Roberto Alomar in case they trade Alfonso Soriano and don’t receive a second baseman in return.
Alomar still may go to St. Louis, but a starting job in Texas would have to be very tempting.

Roberto Alomar did not start last night, still suffering from a sore left hip flexor.
Alomar remains day-to-day. He’s been dealing with the injury for about a week.
  • TB 2nd Baseman
Roberto Alomar, who has had to sit out games against left-handers due to a bothersome hip flexor, is considering batting left-handed against lefties.
It’s batting right-handed that is giving the switch-hitter trouble. His idea can’t hurt -- Alomar is hitting .320 as a left-handed batter, vs. just .145 as a right-handed batter.

Since taking over as the leadoff hitter seven games ago, Roberto Alomar is 8-for-24 with eight walks and six runs scored.
Alomar has two stolen bases (one as a leadoff man), but he’s not the threat he once was, so he and his owners would no doubt prefer that he hit second or third to improve his RBI chances. But with the team having no better options, they’ll stick with Alomar while they’re getting a spark from him.

Roberto Alomar is expected to return from a slightly straigned left groin tomorrow.
Alomar left Friday’s game with the injury.
