Rodriguez, who turns 25 in January, had a solid 2.90 ERA and 69/35 K/BB ratio over 71 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A. The southpaw likely would have been picked up in the Rule 5 Draft if he was exposed.

Rodriguez posted an underwhelming 4.91 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 47 2/3 innings last season between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He’ll likely pass through waivers unclaimed and head back to Charlotte in 2014.

As he fills out and gets stronger, he should be an option as a starting pitcher.
