Padres signed RHP Sean Boyle to a minor league contract.
Boyle, 29, had been in the Yankees system ever since being drafted in 2018. He spent most of last season in their Triple-A rotation, going 9-9 with a 4.61 ERA and a 120/51 K/BB in 134 2/3 innings. His lack of velocity has held him back, but with plus command and a nice slider, he could prove serviceable in middle relief if he ever gets the chance.

Sean Boyle scattered four hits over three scoreless innings Sunday against the Tigers.
Boyle returned from Tommy John surgery as a reliever in the second half of last season, but it looks like he’s going back to starting now. The 2018 25th-round pick is 28 years old, but he’s typically posted excellent K/BB ratios in the minors and he looked rather interesting in 2022 before going down early the following season. He might surface in the majors at some point.
