Zeuch

Zeuch failed to land a spot on the Rockies’ season-opening roster and will head to the Phillies to serve as organizational pitching depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The soft-tossing 27-year-old righty made three starts last year for the Reds.

Zeuch was in camp this spring with the Rockies as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor league contract last December. The soft-tossing 27-year-old righty will open the regular season as extra organizational starting pitching depth at Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 27-year-old hurler really struggled in three appearances with the Reds during the 2022 campaign, registering a 15.19 ERA and 2.91 WHIP across 10 2/3 innings. It’s a nice landing spot for Zeuch as he should have a realistic shot at breaking camp with the big league club with a strong showing in the spring.

Zeuch had surrendered 18 earned runs in just 10 2/3 innings of work with the Reds and may struggle to land with a new organization before the end of the regular season. He owns a career 6.49 ERA in the majors.

To add injury to insult, Zeuch heads to the injured list after he was clobbered in Wednesday’s loss to the Phillies. Dauri Moreta was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

Zeuch came into this one with a 13.50 ERA in two starts and ended it with a 15.19 ERA. He walked four and hit a batter while failing to record a single strikeout. It seems like the Reds should try someone else next time through.

Zeuch has been called up to replace an injured Graham Ashcraft in the Reds’ starting rotation and will likely take the ball for Wednesday’s game against the Phillies. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers.

T.J. Zeuch has had a rough go of it during his time with the Reds. The 27-year-old has a 13.50 ERA with a 5/3 K/BB ratio across eight innings of work. He should fill in as rotation depth for the team.

He managed to hold the Phils off the board for the first two frames even as four runners reached. Zeuch retired the first two in the third but then gave up back-to-back home runs. He served up another homer in the fourth -- a three-run shot -- and gave up hits to the first two of the fifth before being lifted. Zeuch simply hasn’t looked like a major league pitcher in his two starts for the Reds, which is no surprise since he wasn’t pitching well at Triple-A, either.

Zeuch has had trouble with Triple-A batters this season, so that he struggled against one of the best teams in baseball comes as no surprise. The big righty yielded one homer among six hits, and he issued two walks and also hit two batters. Zeuch will probably head back to the minors now.
