Bozied

Bozied has been limited to nine games this season. He’s batting .190.

Bozied is considered San Diego’s first baseman of the future and could be an option this year in Ryan Klesko needs to go on the disabled list.

It will take multiple injuries to get Bozied into San Diego’s lineup this season. He’s limited to first base, and Xavier Nady will be the fallback option there should anything happen to Phil Nevin.

Bozied could play first base in the majors, but he’s blocked in San Diego. Unless a trade happens, he’ll head back to Triple-A.

It sounds like he was saving up. Actually, that makes four homers in two games for Bozied, whose 2004 season ended when he suffered a ruptured patella tendon while jumping on home plate following a game-winning grand slam for Triple-A Portland. He missed the start of this year with continued soreness in his knee.

Bozied was off to a nice start for Portland, hitting .314 and slugging .629 in 10 games.

Bozied, who returned from a pulled hamstring last week, is batting .348/.388/.674 in 13 games for Portland. He’s a solid prospect, but he’s not a big part of San Diego’s plans.
