Padres acquired second baseman Taylor Lindsey, shortstop Jose Rondon, RHP R.J. Alvarez and RHP Elliot Morris from the Angels for RHP Huston Street and RHP Trevor Gott.
Lindsey opened the year as the Angels’ No. 1 prospect, according to Baseball America. In fact, he was the team’s only prospect to make BA’s preseason Top 100 list. Lindsey, though, has had a tough season as a 22-year-old in Triple-A, hitting a modest .247/.323/.400 in a very good environment for offense at Salt Lake. He’s still a nice all-around offensive prospect with his history of hitting for solid averages and decent pop. He also doesn’t strike out too much (just 44 times in 334 plate appearances this year). He’s no better than average defensively at second, but he should be good enough to stay there. Ideally, he’ll push Jedd Gyorko to third next year with Chase Headley expected to depart as a free agent (if not well before then).

Angels prospect 2B Taylor Lindsey was 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season Thursday for Triple-A Salt Lake.
Lindsey, 22, is batting .250 through Salt Lake’s first 20 games, but owns a .766 OPS thanks to seven extra-base hits and a 12/10 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The left-handed hitting second baseman has also scored 18 runs. Lindsey doesn’t have a clear path to playing time behind Howie Kendrick on the organizational depth chart, but he could conceivably see time in the major leagues this season in the event of an injury. If not, he could also serve as intriguing trade bait later in the year should the Angels need to make a deal.

Angels reassigned 2B Taylor Lindsey, LHP Robert Carson, 1B CJ Cron, INF Shawn O’Malley and C Anderson De La Rosa to minor league camp.
There are no surprises in this group, as Carson had already been outrighted off the 40-man roster. Lindsey is the Angels’ top prospect but is just 22 and in need of more minor league seasoning.

Taylor Lindsey will open the 2014 season at Triple-A Salt Lake.
Lindsey, 22, is widely considered the Angels’ top prospect headed into the season. He’s coming off a breakthrough performance in 2013 at Double-A Arkansas in which he batted .274 in 566 plate appearances and set career highs with 17 home runs and 48 walks. Lindsey is unlikely to debut with the Angels this season, save for an injury to Howie Kendrick, and stands to benefit from further seasoning in the minor leagues.

Angels prospect Taylor Lindsey was 1-for-5 with his first home run of the season on Sunday.
The 22-year-old second baseman is off to a solid start at Triple-A Salt Lake, as he’s currently batting .263 and has hit safely in all four games to open the season. Lindsey lacks a clear path to the major leagues, but he could be in line for playing time should something happen to Howie Kendrick at some point this season.

Padres sent INF Taylor Lindsey outright to Double-A San Antonio.
He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. Lindsey has put up a hideous .197/.294/.298 batting line between Double- and Triple-A this season.

Padres designated INF Taylor Lindsey for assignment.
Acquired from the Angles in the Huston Street trade last July, Lindsey has put up a hideous .197/.294/.298 batting line between Double- and Triple-A this season. The former compensation pick is still just 23 but really isn’t a prospect anymore after two straight disappointing seasons.

Padres reassigned INF Taylor Lindsey, OF Hunter Renfroe, and C Griff Erickson to minor league camp.
None of these players were realistic candidates for an Opening Day roster spot. Lindsey, 23, batted just .238/.306/.372 last season in the minor leagues.

Padres purchased the contract of 2B Taylor Lindsey from Triple-A El Paso.
Acquired from the Angles in the Huston Street trade, Lindsey had a disappointing 2014 campaign with just a .238/.306/.372 batting line. He’ll turn just 23 next month, though, and was certainly worth protecting from the Rule 5 Draft.

Padres prospect 2B Taylor Lindsey went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI on Tuesday for Triple-A El Paso.
Lindsey was just 2-for-25 (.080) over his previous seven games with El Paso, so it was good to see the 22-year-old second baseman bust out of his funk with a pair of extra-base hits. Acquired from the Angels in mid-July as part of a prospect package for Huston Street, Lindsey is batting .226/.287/.357 with six extra-base hits and 13 RBI in 23 games with his new club. On the year, he’s produced a .243/.316/.390 batting line with 10 home runs, 17 doubles, five triples, 44 RBI and a 51-39 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 100 games.
