    This is an oddly-timed move. It was a no-brainer that Pratt was going to be Philadelphia’s backup catcher this year, but adding him now cost the team Elio Serrano on waivers. If they had waited until late March to make the switch, Serrano would have had a better chance of clearing waivers. In fact, since some 60-day DL assignments could have freed up roster spots, they might not have needed to send Serrano through waivers after all.

    Phillies re-signed catcher Todd Pratt to a one-year, $750,000 contract.
    Sandy Alomar Jr.'s MRI saved the Phillies from themselves. Pratt turns 38 in February, but he remains a quality backup catcher. Over the last three years, he’s hit .279 with 10 HR, 52 RBI and 64 walks in 379 AB.
