Angels recalled outfielder Tommy Murphy from Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Angels seem to be rotating Murphy and Reggie Willits whenever they can afford to drop to 11 pitches. Murphy won’t have any fantasy value while serving as a backup to Chone Figgins.

Murphy went 1-for-2 in his latest stint with the Angels.

Angels optioned outfielder Tommy Murphy to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Murphy hit .243/.293/.432 with three steals in three tries in 37 at-bats for the Angels. He’ll probably be back to act as a reserve next time Darin Erstad goes on the DL.

Angels recalled outfielder Tommy Murphy from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Murphy hit .243/.293/.432 in 37 at-bats during Darin Erstad’s first DL stint. While his speed is intriguing, he’s probably not going to play enough to produce any value in AL-only leagues.

With Salt Lake about to get knocked out of the PCL playoffs, Tommy Murphy will likely rejoin the Angels shortly.
Murphy won’t have any value down the stretch.

One more outfielder with Gary Matthews Jr. down. Murphy has hit .212/.252/.308 in 104 at-bats as a major leaguer.

Angels optioned outfielder Tommy Murphy to Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Angels preferred Murphy to Reggie Willits last year, but Willits was always the better bet of the two. Murphy lacks more than fifth-outfielder upside. He’s hit .212/.252/.308 in 104 at-bats as a major leaguer.

Angels sent outfielder Tommy Murphy and RHP Marc Gwyn outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Nick Gorneault failed to clear waivers, but the other two players did and became minor league free agents. Murphy has hit .213//252/.306 in 108 at-bats with the Angels the last two years. That he’s a switch-hitter with speed figures to earn him additional chances.

Nationals signed outfielders Jason Dubois, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Dubois, 28, is about done as a legitimate candidate for a roster spot after hitting just .251/.303/.415 for Triple-A Norfolk last season. Even if he rebounds offensively, his poor defense in left field will be held against him. Murphy is coming over from the Angels. Scouts tended to think he was a better bet than Reggie Willits to put together a career in the majors, but the former infielder has little power and hasn’t turned into much of an OBP guy. Plus, he’s an awful basestealer for someone with plus speed.

Royals reassigned LHP Heath Phillips, LHP Lenny DiNardo, RHP Anthony Lerew, RHP Victor Marte, C Matt Tupman and OF Tommy Murphy to minor league camp.
We’d trust either Phillips or DiNardo with a rotation spot before Horacio Ramirez. Phillips had a 3.86 ERA in his 11 2/3 innings this spring. DiNardo pitched five scoreless innings, striking out seven.
