Single-A Beloit played a game at Miller Park yesterday, and over 14,000 fans turned up to get a look at future Brewers Prince Fielder, Anthony Gwynn, and Rickie Weeks.
Gwynn had the most success of this ''Big Three,’' contributing a pair of sacrifice flies and a single in Beloit’s 4-2 win over Wisconsin. Weeks walked twice and Fielder was 1-for-5 with a single.

Tony Gwynn Jr. went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Wednesday in his first start in center field for the Brewers.
Gwynn had been 4-for-9 as a pinch-hitter and late-game replacement over the previous three weeks. He probably shouldn’t be in the majors when there’s so little for him to do in Milwaukee, but he’s succeeded in his limited oppportunities so far.

Brewers optioned outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. to Triple-A Nashville.
Gwynn made just one start in 3 1/2 weeks with the Brewers and went 7-for-15. He’ll be back to act as a reserve in September.

Anthony Gwynn went 3-for-5 yesterday and is batting .442 in 10 games since joining Single-A Beloit.
Tony’s son looked like a bit of an overdraft in the second round by the Brewers, but he’s playing well so far. He has five doubles, a homer and five steals to go along with the nice average.

Tony Gwynn Jr. went 3-for-3 with a homer, two walks and a stolen base for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.
Gwynn is batting .315/.362/.414 with 12 steals in 16 attempts. The 2003 second-round pick could make the Brewers as a reserve outfielder next year. He probably doesn’t have a future as a regular.

Brewers recalled outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. from Triple-A Nashville.
Gwynn ended up hitting .300/.360/.396 with 30 steals for Nashville. The Brewers will give him some starts over Brady Clark in center field, and his speed might provide him with a little value in NL-only leagues.

Juan Rivera (hamstring) is not in Monday’s lineup against the Rockies.
Rivera grounded into a double-play as a pinch-hitter Saturday, but he hasn’t started last Tuesday due to a strained left hamstring. He remains day-to-day. Tony Gwynn, Jr. will start in left field Monday and bat seventh against right-hander Juan Nicasio.

Matt Kemp (hamstring) is not in Monday’s lineup against the Diamondbacks.
Kemp left Sunday’s game after aggravating his left hamstring and was scheduled to undergo an MRI. He has declared that he will not go on the disabled list, but he figures to miss a couple days at the very least. Tony Gwynn, Jr. will make the start in center field Monday while Bobby Abreu slides into the No. 3 spot in the batting order.

Juan Rivera could miss two months with a ruptured left hamstring tendon.
The best-case scenario is that Rivera will be able to return shortly after he’s reevaluated in two weeks, but surgery could sideline him for 6-8 weeks. Scott Van Slyke was called up to replace him on the active roster, but Bobby Abreu and Tony Gwynn, Jr. figure to see most of the playing time in left field.
  • MLB Outfield #25
Matt Kemp was scratched from Sunday’s lineup due to a tight left hamstring.
The good news is that he’s available to pinch-hit, so hopefully the Dodgers are just playing it safe with the wet weather in Chicago and Kemp will be back in there in a day or two. Tony Gwynn is getting the start in center field in Kemp’s place.
