Rays acquired RHP Tony Locey from the Rockies for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Locey was part of the Rockies’ ignominious Nolan Arenado trade with the Cardinals back in 2021. The 24-year-old righty compiled an unremarkable 6.22 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 93/67 K/BB ratio across 102 2/3 innings (26 appearances, 20 starts) last year between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford.

Rockies acquired RHP Tony Locey, LHP Austin Gomber, INF Elehuris Montero, INF Mateo Gil, and RHP Jake Sommers from the Cardinals for 3B Nolan Arenado.
Locey was a third-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia and went on to post a 5.29 ERA and 31/12 K/BB ratio over his first 17 professional innings that summer between the rookie-level Gulf Coast League and Low-A Peoria. The 22-year-old had been operating as a reliever in the Cardinals’ system, but he worked as a starter his final year at Georgia and could be tried again in that role with Colorado.
