Thompson spent last year in the lower rungs of Atlanta’s minor-league system after logging seven years in Texas’ system to open his career. The 26-year-old righty pitched well last year in relief, but he’s merely extra organizational depth at this stage of his development.

Thompson spent the last seven years in the Rangers’ minor league system and finished last season with a disastrous 7.13 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 18/12 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 innings (14 appearances) between High-A Hickory and Triple-A Round Rock. The 25-year-old righty represents a project reliever for the Braves moving forward.
