They removed him from the 40-man roster a couple weeks ago, and now Gillies is out of the organization altogether. Gillies, 25, has batted just .214/.270/.289 at Triple-A this season.

Phillies acquired OF Tyson Gillies and RHPs Phillippe Aumont and Juan Ramirez from the Mariners for LHP Cliff Lee.
Gillies, 21, is a former 25th round draft pick by the Mariners in 2006. He batted .341/.430/.486 with nine home runs, 42 RBI, 104 runs scored and 44 stolen bases with Class A High Desert in 2009, as he continues to exceed expectations. He’s a speedster, with an above-average arm and range in center field, but the jury is still out whether he can be an every day outfielder in the majors. Altogether, it’s a pretty underwhelming package.

Gillies was arrested in Florida in late August after tests for a substance that was found on his person in June proved positive for cocaine. “I’m very glad that this ordeal is over,” Gillies said. “But I’m still very upset that it happened to me and that my character, which I’ve worked so hard to build, can even be questioned.” Gillies, 21, was a 25th round draft pick by the Mariners in 2006. He was traded to the Phillies in the Cliff Lee trade in December 2009.
